Exit Tunnel and follow A19 Sunderland signs. Continue for 3 miles until you reach a main roundabout – then exit left onto A184/Newcastle Road, signposted Sunderland.

Continue through East Boldon; A184 becomes A1018.

Continue for approximately 3 miles. Turn right at traffic lights onto Church Street North.

Follow the road round bearing right onto Dame Dorothy Street.

Carry along Dame Dorothy Street and then bear left onto Wearmouth Bridge.

On crossing the bridge take the first exit turning left on to A1018/West Wear Street, passing the cinema situated on the right and follow signs to Sunniside Car Park.

Follow signposts to Sunderland from the A19.

Branch left and then merge onto the A1018 signposted Sunderland.

At the roundabout take the 1st exit on to A1018.

At the second roundabout take the 3rd exit on to the A1018 signposted for City Centre.

At the third roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A1018.

At the forth (Ryhope Dene) roundabout take the first exit onto the A1018.

At the fifth roundabout (Salterfen) take the 2nd exit on to the A1018.

Continue forward onto the A1018.

At the sixth roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A1018.

At the seventh roundabout (Jack Crawford House) take the 2nd exit onto the A1018.

At the eighth roundabout (Raich Carter Sports Centre) take the 2nd exit onto the A1018.

At the ninth roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A1018 signposted for The Port B1522.

At the tenth roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A1018 signposted for City Centre B1294.

At the eleventh roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A1018 signposted for South Shields.

At the twelfth roundabout take the 1st exit on the High Street West, take the first turn right and follow signs for Sunniside car park.

Exit A1 from junction 65 signposted Sunderland/A1231

Merge onto A1231

At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A1231/Sunderland

Go straight on through 5 roundabouts

At the 6th roundabout take the 2nd exit A1231/Wessington Way

Cross Queen Alexandra Bridge

Take the second exit from roundabout follow signs for city centre

Go straight on through 2 roundabouts

At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit onto A1018 West Wear Street, passing the cinema on the right and follow signs for Sunniside Car Park.

Turn off A1(M) at junction 62 marked A690/Sunderland.

At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A690 heading to Sunderland.

Go straight on through 3 roundabouts.

At the 4th roundabout filter left onto A1231/St. Michael’s Way for approximately 200 metres until you reach a junction with traffic lights.

Continue to next roundabout and bear right and take the 2nd exit onto A183/Livingstone Row.

Go straight on through 1 roundabout.

At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit onto A1018/West Wear Street, passing the cinema on your right and follow signs for Sunniside Car Park.

Come out of Sunderland Central via Station Street (Wilkinson’s and Specsavers opposite entrance) and turn left.

Cross Fawcett Street and walk to the end of Athenaeum Street (Crossing John Street and Frederick Street also) on to West Sunniside where you will see Sunnisde Gardens.
